“Buji has no charisma, how can you vote for him?” I heard that question so many times in the last month and I always respond with the same answer, which I truly believe in, “I enjoyed enough with charismatic leaders who has no courage to do something besides surviving in their chair”. The biggest problem of Yitzhak Herzog is his childhood voice. Herzog is aware to that problem and works with experts in order to achieve a more authoritative voice. This amusing anecdote reminds me the winning Oscars movie, “The King’s Speech” which tell the story of King George IV who suffered from voice stuttering problem and was afraid to speak in front of the Britain nation. As the same as Herzog, the king went through special treatment to solve the problem in his voice. The movie ends with an authentic and inspiring recording of King George speaking to the nation at the beginning of the second war world.

Stav shafir, a 29 years old Knesset member won the second place in the primaries of the Labor party. The moment the results were published, many right wing voters started to criticize Shafir’s agenda on Facebook and described her as Post-Zionistic because of her refusal to sing the Israeli anthem in the social protest that she led in the summer of 2011. Her claim was that the Tikva song does not represent the Arabs minority and they are a crucial part of the protest. Since Shafir was elected, she never talked about that issue. All she did, very successfully is to reveal the corruption and injustice that allows Nisan Sulimyanski, the head of the Finance Committee and a Knesset Member from the “Jewish House”, transfer without any transparent hundreds of millions of Shekels to fund the settlements. Time after time, this couple where arguing loudly and both received extensive exposure on the news. There is no doubt that shafir justified her red hair that symbolizes hot-tempered person.  I think that she is doing a great job.

Naftali Benet refused to recognize in gay marriage. He repeats his massage that he is willing to give all the other privileges to the gay community but the bible forbids him from letting gay couples to get married in Israel. Some of my friends asked me if it is so important for me and for Tom to get married in Israel. I don’t really understand that question. I don’t ask any of my straight friends if they are willing to compromise on that issue. Most of them would definitely like that their family and friends will share with them that moment. Moreover, I believe that Bennet’s approach is hypocritical. He is not willing to give up a Palestinian recognition of the Jewish state; however, he is asking the gay community to do so, to give up the right for complete privileges for the gay community under law.

Yesterday I watched the movie “The Imitation Game” that tells the story of “Alan Turing”, the man who solved the German Enigma at world war two. Besides it is a great historical movie it lights other important issue. Turing was gay and after the war, was accused by having relations with other man, which was forbidden at the time.  The country gave him two option: two years in jail or chemical castration treatment. Turing chose the second option and the movie shows that the man who saved the lives of more than 14 million people loses his memory and some physical capabilities. I was surprised that not so long ago people like me were criminals. I am so happy that I live in such better times, but when I look at nonwestern countries, I understand that the struggle have not yet done.

Tom and I are celebrating our birthdays day after day. My friends are saying that it is great but I think it is a dangerous trump. No one can know what the other is planning and in that case, we can embarrass each other. Tom thinks that birthdays are meaningless and such as typical man, he does not understand why we should celebrate them. When I was walking the mall trying to find what I want to buy him, I wanted something not too big but with meaning. I decided to buy him a ring and propose marriage “back” to him, (he already did in September at the airport in front of everyone when he came back from a summer semester in China). I will not share every detail but I took him to a very nice restaurant in Jerusalem and he was very excited with my gesture. Also the waiters there brought us cocktails on the house. I will never forget that moment.

First time I read a poem written by Yona Volah I was stunned. Stunned by her confidence to write whatever she likes, regardless to being a woman in the early 70th in a very conservative country like Israel and still being very provocative. “Strawberries” was the name of that poem. In contrary to its innocent name it deals with her addiction to sex. Trough the years, Volah became one of the most important poetry writes in Israel, and many famous singers composed and sang her songs like Gidi Gov and Ninet Tayeb. In the 90th, the Minister of Education ordered to stop teaching her poems after she published a poem that describes a woman wraps herself with tefillin while she bleeds during menstrual cycle.  Im telling you all of that after watching the movie “Yona” that describes her life. I do not wish to tell spoilers, but I can truly say that even if you have not heard about her, or do not like poetry you should watch that movie.

I can be honest and say, that 90% of the time, I speak or think about politics and might do both. I even think that Politicians appear in my dreams very often, almost like I was Jacob and they were angels. Moreover, the likelihood that someone will open the television in my room and it will not be on the Knesset channel is about zero. Even though it sounds weird to normal human beings, people who know me think that I am lucky that I know what I want to do with my life. The choice to study “government” was easy and the only other option was “film studies”, which allows me to combine my political dream with my passion to the movies industry. Still, my boyfriend Tom was not prepared that I will be so excited to watch the view of the Knesset from the window in his new apartment in Jerusalem.
